Principal Systems Architect at UNISON

Michael Mayers has a diverse work experience in the technology industry. Michael is currently serving as the Principal Systems Architect at UNISON since April 2023, where they focus on virtual reality device software stack and hardware bring-up, as well as real-time AI/ML and sensor communications infrastructure.

Prior to UNISON, Michael worked as the Principal Systems Architect at Aphid Systems Corporation starting in January 2021.

From August 2017 to January 2021, they were a Principal Systems Architect at Tanzle, where they contributed to the development of a collaborative operating system for high-performance stereoscopic visualization. Michael was responsible for the client side and backend architecture, along with implementing the build system and writing significant portions of the code.

Before that, Michael worked as a Lead Rendering Engineer at Machine Zone, Inc. from March 2015 to August 2017. Michael played a key role in the development of MZ's next-generation rendering and simulation engine, and also pioneered the client developer team's build environment.

From 2013 to 2014, Michael worked at Bluescape LLC as a Principal SW Engineer, Architect, focusing on the Bluescape Wall project. Michael contributed to the development of the wall system and played a crucial role in delivering the product to customers.

Prior to Bluescape, they served as the Head of Software Engineering at Obscura Digital from June 2012 to September 2013. Michael was responsible for leading software engineering and software architecture for the Bluescape Wall collaborative operating system, including creating the wall client build system and developing an OpenGL-based display engine.

At Apple, Michael worked as a GPU Developer Technologies Software Engineer from April 2010 to June 2012. Michael was involved in various projects related to OpenGL command stream processing, GPU hardware simulation, validation, and driver validation. Michael also co-wrote demos for Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) and was a speaker at the 2012 WWDC.

In addition, they worked as a Senior Graphics/Software Engineer at Spaceport.io (formerly Sibblingz, Inc) from February 2010 to April 2010, where they designed and implemented a conversion pipeline and renderer for Flash SWF vector art to OpenGLes for mobile devices.

Before that, Michael had experience as a Contract Software Developer and Consultant at TweakoZ from July 2009 to April 2010. Michael also worked at Santa Cruz Games from October 2005 to July 2009 as a Senior/Lead Platform, Tools, and R&D Engineer, working on various projects including Superman Returns for PSP.

From 1990 to 1992, Michael Mayers attended the Nuclear Power School - Naval Nuclear Power Training Command (NNPTC). During their time there, they pursued the EM Curriculum, focusing on Nuclear Reactor Operations and Electronics.
