The mission of the United Music Foundation is to preserve, enhance and spotlight endangered musical recording heritage, and to make it available to the public.

Unlike the masterpieces of painting, sculpture, and architecture that have come down through history, the lifespan of audio recordings is very limited, due to:

- physical and chemical degradation of recording media,
- obsolescence of technical equipment,
- loss of expertise.

According to UNESCO, countless recordings of inestimable value have already disappeared, and we only have 10 to 15 years left to transfer available audiovisual recordings to digital media to prevent their loss.

The United Music Foundation has aready preserved hundreds of recordings, including previously unreleased works by prestigious artists. To date, its work has been recognized by two national awards: The Best Reissue Award from the Académie du Jazz (Paris), and the Memoriav – Swiss Commission for UNESCO Award. Since then, the United Music Foundation has equipped itself with a unique audio restoration system, the Cedar Cambridge, which is presently the only unit in service in Switzerland.
