Primoz Knap

Senior Bioinformatics Scientist at Universal Diagnostics

Primoz Knap has a wealth of experience in bioinformatics, genomics, and cloud computing. In 2018, they began working as a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist at Universal Diagnostics SL, where they specialized in processing raw sequencing data and analyzing it, including Whole Genome (WGS, WGBS) and Targeted approaches. Primoz also set up cloud computing (AWS) and developed cloud-based biological tools and pipelines. Additionally, they were involved in cancer biomarker discovery, selection, and validation (DNA methylation, mutation). Primoz Knap also has experience with Linux command line interface (CLI), running workflows on remote servers and data transfer protocols, programming languages (Bash, R, Python), containerised software, and Git, Conda, Snakemake, and Common Workflow Language (CWL). From 2014-2018, Primoz Knap worked as a PHD Researcher at Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, where they researched human polyribosome translation regulation induced by a pore-forming toxin listeriolysin O (LLO) and its mutants, and discovered novel long non-coding RNAs (lncRNA) associated with active polyribosomes and their apparent function in translation regulation. Primoz also had experience with gene silencing of lncRNAs to promote host cell immune response, confocal microscopy, NGS, RNS-Seq, and Ribo-Seq (ribosome profiling). In 2013, Primoz Knap worked as a Master Thesis Student at Kemijski inštitut - National Institute of Chemistry.

Primoz Knap attended the University of Ljubljana from 2007 to 2013, where they obtained a Master's degree in Biochemistry. Primoz then attended the Università di Trento from 2014 to 2017, where they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
