Thomas Westerback

Thomas Westerback has a diverse range of work experience. Thomas started their career at Turun Vapaavarasto Oy, where they worked as an Assistant in the Department of Finance. During this time, they handled bookkeeping, invoicing, and other accounting-related tasks. Thomas worked there part-time while studying and continued in a full-time capacity during summers from 2003 to 2011.

After that, they joined Deloitte as an Associate and later as a Consulting Analyst. In these roles, they gained experience in consulting and analysis.

In 2015, Thomas joined PwC Sweden as an Associate in Strategy & Transactions. Thomas was involved in commercial due diligence, market analysis, and strategy development projects in industries such as telecom, retail, consumer goods, and media.

Thomas then moved to PwC Suomi, where they held the position of Senior Associate in Deals Strategy. Thomas played a key role in establishing the Deals Strategy practice in Finland and became a trusted advisor for Nordic private equities. Thomas secured a promotion to Manager before leaving PwC Suomi.

In 2017, Thomas joined UPM - The Biofore Company as a Manager in Corporate Strategy. Thomas later became the Director of Strategy & Business Development for UPM Timber & Forest. In this role, they were responsible for planning and driving strategy development, as well as development initiatives in timber and forest activities. Thomas also took parental leave during their time at UPM.

Currently, Thomas is serving as the Director of Sustainability and Operations Development for UPM Timber. Thomas is focused on improving operations' environmental impact and supporting the company's sustainability journey. Thomas is also responsible for areas such as safety, technology development and investments, sourcing, and quality and management systems.

Thomas Westerback earned their Master of Science degree in Economics with a focus on Accounting & Finance from Åbo Akademi University.
