Tuomas Kara

Tuomas Kara is a seasoned environmental professional with extensive experience in forestry and sustainability, currently serving as the Senior Manager for Environment at UPM - The Biofore Company since February 2016. In this role, Tuomas leads a team of five senior environmental specialists focused on promoting sustainable forest use and certification, engaging with various stakeholders, and participating in biodiversity projects. Previous positions at UPM include managing the FSC® group certification scheme and ISO14001 environmental management system. Tuomas has also authored a master's thesis on coarse woody debris in FSC-certified forests and holds a Master’s Degree in Forest Ecology from the University of Helsinki. Earlier entrepreneurial experience includes managing purchasing and logistics for a company providing Christmas trees and related services.
