Nir Hak

Nir Hak is a highly experienced professional in machine learning and economics, currently serving as the Director of Machine Learning at Upstart since December 2025. Prior to this role, Nir held various positions at Uber from May 2020 to December 2025, including Staff Applied Scientist and Manager II, where leadership was provided for a team algorithmically pricing rides valued at $30 billion in annual gross bookings. Nir's expertise also extends to academia, having been a Visiting Scholar at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management, where lectures focused on Market Design and Dynamic Pricing. Nir completed a Ph.D. in Economics at Harvard University, with research interests in Network Theory, Bayesian Learning, and Empirical Industrial Organization. Previous experience includes analytical roles at eBay, teaching fellowships at Harvard Kennedy School, and service as an analyst in the Israeli Military Intelligence.
