Mike Swartz has a diverse work experience in various fields. Mike co-founded Upstatement in 2008 and currently holds the role of CEO, focusing on new business, business strategy, and high-level art direction. Prior to that, they worked as an adjunct professor at Massachusetts College of Art, teaching web design and front-end development. Mike also worked as a designer for Complex // media, where they primarily worked on the magazine cover featuring Kanye West. In addition, Mike Swartz worked as a designer at The Boston Globe and San Jose Mercury News. Mike started their career as an intern at Kalamazoo Gazette, designing pages and infographics. Mike also held roles as a presentation director at The Daily Orange, a cellphone sales representative at AT&T, and a to-go counter operator at Chili's. Furthermore, they worked as a certified Titleist fitter at Northway 8 Golf, where they sold clubs and honed their sales skills.

Mike Swartz has a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Boston University. Mike also attended Hudson Valley Community College, where they achieved the titles of Cafeteria Chess Master and Intramural Dart Champion, focusing on driving around. Mike furthered their education at the MIT Sloan School of Management by completing an Executive MBA program. Prior to their higher education, they attended Shenendehowa High School, where they obtained a Regents degree. Lastly, Mike received an honorary degree in Graphic Design from Syracuse University. Additionally, they have a certification as a Titleist Golf Club Fitter, obtained from Acushnet Titleist [Thailand] Ltd.
