Laura Read has a decade of experience in the engineering and research field. In 2008, they began their career as an Engineering Intern at the City of Austin Water Utility, where they worked on creating a GIS database for the Hornsby Bend plant. In 2009, they were a NSF GK-12 Fellow at the Environmental Science Institute. In 2010, they worked on Curriculum Development at The University of Texas UTeach Engineering. In 2011, they were a Graduate Research Assistant at Tufts University. In 2012, they were a Climber Scientist at USAID. In 2013, they were a Short Term Consultant at the International Finance Corporation. In 2014, they were an Engineer Intern at the US Army Corps of Engineers. In 2015, they were a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Colorado School of Mines. From 2016 to 2020, they were an Associate Scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research. Currently, they are the Head of Product Strategy at Upstream Tech, as well as a Senior Product Manager and Growth and Partnerships at HydroForecast.
Laura Read obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Chemistry from the University of Puget Sound in 2006. Laura then went on to obtain an M.S. in Environmental Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin in 2011. Finally, Laura Read completed their Ph.D. in Environmental and Water Resources Engineering from Tufts University in 2015.
