Steven Smith has a diverse work experience, primarily in the financial and administrative sectors. Steven is currently serving as the Director of Finance and Administration at The Urban Assembly, Inc. Prior to this, they worked as a Consultant at Coordinated Behavioral Health Services, where they supported efforts in providing behavioral health and long-term care disability services. Steven also served as the Chief Financial Officer at Broadway Housing Communities, a non-profit housing developer, and at Harlem Dowling. Additionally, Steven has held positions at Legal Services NYC, Greenwich House, Inc., The Guidance Center, Inc., East Harlem Music, Inc., and Steinway Child and Family Services in various financial and administrative roles.
Steven Smith attended Adelphi University from 1978 to 1982, where they obtained a Bachelor of Business Studies and Master of Science degree in Accounting.

The Urban Assembly (UA) believes that a first class public education is a basic human right and that demography should not determine a young person’s destiny. The UA is committed to ensuring the social and economic mobility of students by advancing capacity to enhance student achievement, well-being, and preparation for postsecondary opportunities in all of its 23 schools. In partnership with the NYC Department of Education and hundreds of public, private and nonprofit partners, the UA currently serves over 9,000 students in small, subject-themed public middle and high schools across New York City, including seven Career and Technical (CTE) schools and three all-girls schools.
