Urban Greens Ltd was established with the belief that we can make this world a better place through more sustainable and healthier sources of food. We can transform urban landscapes and make them more pleasant to live in, while cutting green house gasses. Back-yard aquaponics has the potential to do all this. Aquaponics is a closed loop system in which fish and plants are combined to efficiently grow both. The ammonia in the waste water of the fish is broken down by bacteria to plant food. After it is absorbed by the plants, the water is fed back to the fish tank. The only input required is fish food and minor additions of micro nutrients, making it all 100% organic and very efficient. Although traditionally aquaponics is practiced in large farms or by enthusiastic hobby gardeners, we make it available to a larger audience of urban growers.
