After four years of my PhD, I recognised there was a need for greater representation of the value of plastic across many industries. The public has been given only half the story, reflecting plastic packaging that is leaked into the marine environment, causing distressing impacts to the marine mammals, fish, crustaceans, etc and seabirds.

Plastic is not just used for packaging. Of all the packaging that is produced globally, packaging only consumes 40% of total production. Other industries which use plastic are building/construction, automotive, electronics, medical, agriculture among many other uses.

Although there is a great need to rid the world of unnecessary plastic packaging, and plastic products generally, there is also a need to #useplasticbetter - both in design and generation, but also in the management phase of the Plastics Value Change.

UsePlasticBetter provides a conduit between the plastics industry, particularly plastic packaging, and the general public, and importantly to advocate for solutions that are locally appopriate for small island developing states.
