Derek S. started their career in 2016 as a Paralegal Assistant at Lightfoot, Franklin & White, where they managed large scale document based research projects and conducted jury demographic collection. In 2018, they moved to Better where they held several roles, including Director of Partnership Operations, Regional Closing Manager- West Coast, West Coast Closing Manager, and Closing Associate. In 2022, they joined Vesta as a Technical Product Specialist. During their time at Better, Derek was responsible for carrying forwards product automation and cost-saving initiatives for fulfillment operations, identified and led a company-wide cost-saving initiative, led four departments and over a hundred people, and implemented a new management process. As Regional Closing Manager- West Coast, they led Covid business continuity for mortgage ops and product efforts for closing and settlement services, and scaled the west coast closing team from 20 people to over 120. As West Coast Closing Manager, they scaled the operations functions in Irvine from 4 to 20 in 6 months and helped the Oakland office double in size. As Closing Associate, they were chosen to onboard the next three closing hires while maintaining a pipeline himself.
