Every day, we wake up to a world weighed down by crime, poverty, corruption,
and pollution. Our environment is fragile, our economy is struggling, and too
many children face a future without hope. The call for change isn’t just urgent - it’s deafening.

Uzwelo was born from this desperation - but not to dwell on what’s wrong. Instead, we asked: What can we do?

In August 2016, we took a simple idea and gave it purpose: repurposing Expand a Sign’s waste banner fabric to stop it from filling our landfills. But what started as a sustainability effort quickly became something much greater.

That fabric became more than just material - it became the foundation of durable, one-of-a-kind school bags. These aren’t just bags; they’re a symbol of opportunity, of dignity, of belief in a brighter future. Today, through the support of corporate South Africa, Over 30 000 Uzwelo school bags have been placed into the hands of underprivileged children across South Africa - giving them more than just a way to carry their books.
