James Helliwell is a highly experienced professional in the maritime and energy sectors, currently serving as the Commercial Director for Decarbonisation at V.Group since May 2024. Prior to this role, James held several positions at Shell from October 2018 to May 2024, including Digital Program Manager for Integrated Deal Making and Project Engineer Technology, where responsibilities included leading digital strategy initiatives and developing technologies to facilitate hydrogen adoption as a marine fuel. James also focused on enhancing shipping technologies to support Shell’s sustainability goals. Early in his career, James worked as a Project Engineer at NanoSUN, developing hydrogen storage technologies, and served in the Royal Navy as a Midshipman and Bursar. James holds a Master’s degree in Marine Technology with Honors in Marine Engineering from Newcastle University.
