Daniel Stein

Vice President of Product at Valence

Daniel Stein has an extensive work experience in the field of product management. Daniel began their career in 2005 as a Program Manager Intern at Microsoft Corporation, where they developed a functional specification and business justification for automatic sign-up and provisioning of cellular data modems and filed a patent application. In 2006, they took on the role of Associate Instructor of Flute at Indiana University, where they led private lessons and group classes for students. In 2011, they returned to Microsoft as a Program Manager II for Excel, where they created the first data-driven process to prioritize the Excel Online feature backlog and designed, managed, and shipped 10+ features. In 2015, they joined Smartsheet as a Senior Director of Product Management, where they led product development for Creation and Collaboration experiences and previously led the Search, Browse, Home, and Shared UI teams. Daniel also held the roles of Director of Product Management, Mobile, Principal Product Manager, and Senior Product Manager at Smartsheet. In 2022, they joined Valence as Vice President of Product, where they help leaders at many of the world's largest companies create great teams and transform their organizational culture at scale.

Daniel Stein has a diverse education history. Daniel obtained two Bachelor of Science degrees in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science, and Music (double major) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2005. In 2006, they were awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to the Haute école de musique de Genève where they obtained a Master of Music and completed coursework for Doctor of Music in Flute Performance and Music Theory. From 2012 to 2014, they attended the University of Washington - Michael G. Foster School of Business, where they obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Technology Management.
