David Schaffer

Co-Founder, Chairman of the SAB at Valitor

David Schaffer has held a variety of roles in the scientific and academic fields. In 1999, they began their career as a Professor at the University of California, Berkeley. In 2011, they Co-Founded Valitor and served as Chairman of the SAB. Also in 2011, they were appointed Director of the NIH/Berkeley Stem Cell Biological Engineering Training Program. In 2012, they became the Director of the Berkeley Stem Cell Center. In 2019, they Co-Founded Axent Biosciences and served as Director, Chief Scientific Advisor. In 2021, they became the Director of GenEdit. In 2022, they were appointed Director of QB3, Bakar Labs, and Bakar BioEnginuity Hub. In 2020, they were appointed Director of QB3-Berkeley.

David Schaffer attended Ridge High School from 1987 to 1989. David then went on to Stanford University, where they earned a BS in Chemical Engineering in 1993. After that, they pursued a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which they completed in 1998.
