From 2021, companies will have legal obligations in Belgium towards both prevention and management of the waste stream from mattresses. Because fulfilling extended producers responsibility individually for manufacturers and importers is both organisationally and financially impossible, a number of mattress manufacturers and the sector federations Fedustria (textile, wood and furniture industry), Comeos (trade and services) and Navem (furniture trade) have established the management body Valumat vzw/asbl.
