Matt Karlin is the current Chief Financial Officer at Vangst, a position they have held since September of 2018. Prior to their current role, Matt served as the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis at ACell, Inc. from October 2010 to September 2018. In their role at ACell, Matt was responsible for conceptualizing, creating, developing, and building the reporting structure for all sales metrics, key performance indicators (KPIs), and trend analysis used to evaluate Sales and regularly presented to Management and Board. Matt also offered strategic suggestions based on analytics and initiated discussions to promote data-backed decision-making.
In addition to their responsibilities related to sales reporting and analysis, Matt also conceptualized Sales compensation programs with Sales management and C-suite and worked with IT to create an in-house application to perform commissions calculations with 99%+ accuracy. Matt also implemented a customized, driver-based budgeting software application (Adaptive) and managed department VPs throughout the budgeting process as ACell grew to a $97M budget in 2018. Furthermore, they developed a monthly reporting process to study variances and create dialogue for driving improvements.
In preparation for ACell's IPO, Matt developed a long-term financial model and presented it to investment banking analysts. Matt also prepared their executive team to anticipate and respond to financial and analytical questions related to the IPO process. As ACell moved through the IPO process, Matt was responsible for managing all aspects of equity and stock option plan administration and preparing quarterly equity worksheets required for S1 and SEC-compliant financial statements. Matt was successful in securing approval for all equity statements during the S1/pre-IPO process.
Throughout their time at ACell, Matt regularly presented and corresponded financial and analytical information with internal Sales Management and Marketing teams, along with top executives from other external parties such as Investment Banking, Accounting/Audit firms, Outside Legal, Insurance brokers, Shareholders, IR/PR, etc. Matt also performed various ad hoc analyses as needed, including analysis of W2 vs 1099 sales force; production and cost analyses; customer contract analyses, etc. Additionally, they were regularly involved with general accounting functions.
Matt Karlin received their Bachelor's Degree in Economics and Accounting from Washington University in St. Louis. Matt is also a Certified Corporate FP&A Professional from the Association for Financial Professionals.
They are on a team with Kelsea Appelbaum - Head of Community Partnerships, Jenna Myers - Director, Recruiting, and Dena Gellmann - Director, Expansion. Their manager is Karson Humiston, Founder & CEO.
