Aaron Lee

Aaron Lee has worked in various roles since 1991. Aaron began their career as an Enlisted Nuclear Power (E-4) for the US Navy from 1991 to 1997. During this time, they completed two years of training as a Nuclear Plant Mechanical Operator (Machinist Mate) and earned qualification from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Aaron then worked as a Naval Officer (Helicopter Pilot) for the United States Navy from 1997 to 2008. During their time as a Naval Officer, they piloted Search and Rescue, Special Warfare, and Logistics missions as a CH-46 Helicopter Pilot, programmed missile tracking systems and simulations in Matlab and C++ for Phillips Laboratories, and planned and led over 50 successful VIP visits for admirals, dignitaries, and congresspeople to the Republic of Korea.

From 2008 to 2012, Aaron Lee worked as a Physics Teacher for Chicago Public Schools. Aaron then worked as a STEM Teacher for Morgan Park Academy from 2012 to 2013. From 2013 to 2014, they worked as an Independent Instructor for After School Matters, where they founded and led instruction for two Chicago Public School after school coding internship programs for at-risk teens and mentored interns with 100% retention and Chicago mayor’s recognition as a model after school program. Finally, from 2014 to 2021, they worked as a Computer Science Teacher for Francis W. Parker School, where they single-handedly created a new CS curriculum including five new courses in Python, HTML/CSS/JavaScript, and Arduino, and grew CS student enrollment by 400% in less than three years, leading to department expansion. Currently, they are a Data Operations Engineer at Vannevar Labs.

Aaron Lee began their educational journey in 1993, when they received a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Systems Engineering from the United States Naval Academy. Aaron then went on to receive a Master of Education (MEd) in Secondary Education from DePaul University in 2008. In 2021, Aaron completed a Certificate in Data Science from the Flatiron School. Additionally, Aaron has obtained certifications in SQL (Basic and Intermediate) from HackerRank and Tableau Desktop Specialist Certification from Tableau Software, both in July 2021.
