Matt Cooper

Matt Cooper currently serves as the Principal for Cybersecurity & Data Privacy at Vanta. Prior to this, they were the US Director - Cyber, Risk & Advisory at BSI from March 2019 to February 2021. There, they worked as an information security consultant with clients of all sizes in various industries. Matt's specialties included Enterprise IT Risk Assessments, ISO 27001 Maturity Assessments, Gap Assessments and Audit Preparation, Information Security Policy and Procedure Development, SOC 2 Gap Assessments, Audit Preparation and Support, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) compliance consulting.

From August 2014 to January 2016, Matt served as Branch Manager at Universal Protection Service. There, they managed physical security programs in most major industries including government, maritime, healthcare, industrial, manufacturing, transportation, education, commercial real estate, events and retail. Prior to that, they were Branch Manager at McRoberts Protective Agency, Inc from December 2011 to August 2014.

Matt began their career as a Senior Unix Analyst at HB Fuller from March 2000 to February 2002.

Matt Cooper has a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies, Greek from the University of Minnesota. Matt is also certified by the IAPP - International Association of Privacy Professionals in The Certified Information Privacy Professional - United States (CIPP/US), Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM), and Certified Information Privacy Professional - Europe (CIPP/E). In addition, they are certified by (ISC)² as a Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP), by PECB as an ISO 27001 Lead Auditor, by the PCI Security Standards Council as a Qualified Security Assessor (QSA), by ISACA as a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), and by (ISC)² as a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). Finally, they are certified by ASIS International as a Certified Protection Professional (CPP).
