Simone Sala

Simone Sala is an accomplished professional in the field of digital agriculture and technology, currently serving as the Direttore Generale at Varda - Foundation, where coordination of a team of experts promotes the SoilHive GlobalFieldID platforms as public digital goods. With previous experience as the Director of Global Soil & Ecosystem Solutions, Simone has led the design and development of SoilHive, fostering partnerships with multilateral organizations, governments, and academia. Prior roles include Director of Smallholder Markets at Yara International, where Simone supported data-sharing platforms for agricultural innovation, and ICT4D Senior Advisor at the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), assisting in digital technology strategies. Additional experience includes serving as a Senior Expert at Eptisa and a Senior Research Affiliate with DataPop Alliance, focusing on big data applications for climate resilience and food supply chains. Educational qualifications include a PhD in Agriculture with a focus on ICTs for Food Security and an M.Sc. in Information & Communication Technology from Università degli Studi Milano.
