Daniël Verhoef

Director, Research at VarmX

Daniël Verhoef is a senior scientist at VarmX, a young biotech company based in Leiden, Netherlands. Daniël is also a director of research and a senior scientist at Freeline Therapeutics Limited. Verhoef’s focus is on the development of therapies in the field of hemostasis and thrombosis.

Verhoef originally worked as a PhD student at Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), where they focused on the study of macromolecular enzyme-cofactor complexes involved in regulating blood coagulation. Daniël's aim was to identify new therapeutic targets for the treatment of hemostatic disorders. After completing their PhD, Verhoef did an internship at the Academic Center for Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA) for seven months.

Verhoef then joined VarmX as a senior scientist, where they have been working for the past three years. Daniël's work at VarmX has focused on the development of therapies to restore hemostasis in patients taking oral factor Xa inhibitors. Verhoef’s work has been instrumental in the development of VMX-C001, which is currently in clinical trials.

Daniël Verhoef has a Msc from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in Molecular Cell Biology which they obtained between 2008 and 2011.
