Robert Smedley

Bob brings over 30 years’ experience in networking circuit, sub-system, and system design and development to his role as Senior Vice President of systems engineering. Currently, he leads our systems engineering teams in Germantown, Maryland, and San Jose, California.

Prior to Vcinity, Bob was the Director of Systems Engineering at Mantra Communications, where he developed the hardware and software for chassis-based and desktop-based switching systems. Before his time at Mantra, Bob served as Director of Engineering at Excelan, where he developed Ethernet switches with ATM and DSL uplinks.

Previously, he held various positions at IgT (acquired by PMC Sierra), Hughes Network Systems and Litton Industries. At IgT and Hughes, Bob led the hardware and software development of Ethernet and ATM switching silicon, ATM network interface modules, Frame Relay switches and Ethernet switches and routers. He holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland, and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University.
