Nick applies 25+ years as an operator and consultant helping clients approach cyber risk from a CEO and Board of Directors, top-down approach. Refining and measuring controls and capabilities for cyber risk readiness.

As a seasoned operator, Nick is the former Chief Security Officer of Silicon Valley Bank (2007-2021), where he led global security, privacy, and operational risk programs. 

Over his 15-year tenure at Silicon Valley Bank, Nick held various senior security and technology roles including serving as the bank’s Chief Security and Privacy Officer, then later as the Chief Information Officer to modernize technology and adopt Agile software delivery and public cloud production optionality. 

Most recently, he was the Chief Information Security Officer protecting the fastest growing global bank from criminal organizations, insider threats and nation state actors. Prior to joining Silicon Valley Bank, he managed security and privacy engagements for global technology and financial services organizations as part of Deloitte’s Enterprise Risk Services group. Previously, he held managerial, technological, and analyst roles at various organizations. 

Nick currently provides Executive in Residence fractional vCISO/CIO Advisory Consulting services. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Bay Area CSO Council. He also authored “Cyber War…and Peace: Building Digital Trust with History as our Guide” and a frequent guest speaker at conferences, seminars and corporate events globally. 

Nick holds a Bachelor of Economics a Master of Business Administration for Executives and a variety of industry certifications including the CISSP, CISM, SANS GIAC and IAPP CIPP.
