Gavin Heavyside

Gavin Heavyside has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning over two decades. Gavin started their career as a Software Engineer at Nortel Networks, where they developed telephony protocols for switching products. Gavin then joined Intuwave as a Software Engineer, where they led the connectivity team and was responsible for technical aspects of the company's connectivity solutions.

Gavin later worked at ARM as a Staff Engineer, where they were a senior developer in the RealView Debugger development team. Gavin was responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining communications between ARM's flagship debug product and ARM processors or software simulations.

Gavin then joined Journey Dynamics Ltd. as a Senior Software Engineer, where they designed and developed data processing and analysis tools to forecast road traffic congestion. Gavin also developed algorithms for analyzing GPS data.

Gavin co-founded MyDrive Solutions and served as the CTO. Gavin focused on commercializing GPS data analysis and profiling technology with a focus on the motor insurance market. MyDrive Solutions was later acquired by Assicurazioni Generali.

Gavin also worked at MyDrive Solutions as the Chief Architect and later as the CTO. Gavin designed a virtualized IT business with cloud-native products and services architected on AWS.

Gavin then joined Community.com as the Director of Engineering, Platform, where they led the platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, and SRE teams. Gavin was responsible for line management, workload planning, estimation, prioritization, and project management.

At COCO+ | Certified B Corporation, Gavin held various roles, including CTO & Founding Team member and Non-Executive Director. Gavin was responsible for technology strategy, information security and privacy, technology vendor and partner selection and management, and an in-house serverless data processing platform.

In their most recent role at Redpanda Data, Gavin held the position of Engineering Manager, Cloud. Gavin managed and led the engineering team responsible for cloud technology.

Gavin Heavyside received their education in electrical and information sciences at the University of Cambridge from 1995 to 1999. Gavin obtained an MA and MEng degrees during their time there. Additionally, Gavin has obtained several certifications throughout their career. These certifications include being a Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist from the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF), which they obtained in June 2023. Gavin is also a Certified Kubernetes Administrator, which they obtained in December 2022, and an ISO 27001 Lead Implementer - Information Security Certification from IBITGQ, which they obtained in December 2020. Furthermore, Gavin has completed the Algorithms: Design and Analysis, Part 1 course on Coursera in July 2012. Gavin also holds two Amazon Web Services certifications, namely AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate and AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional, which they obtained in October and November 2018, respectively.
