We develop in-situ remediation technologies, groundwater management and protection strategies, monitoring technologies and site investigation techniques. To attain these goals we study contaminant transport and distribution processes as well as chemical reactions in the subsurface. Moreover, we investigate heat flow and storage in the subsurface. We improve our understanding and narrow parameter uncertainty by means of laboratory experiments at scales ranging from a few centimeters to tens of meters. We use mathematical modelling to identify gaps in our understanding and to quantify system behavior. We aim to bridge the gap between novel scientific insights and application of remediation systems in the real world.
