Michael Acton

Sr. Engineer, Head of Heat Transfer Engineering at VEIR

Michael Acton has a diverse work experience in engineering and scientific roles. Michael is currently working as the Sr. Engineer and Head of Heat Transfer Engineering at VEIR, a position they started in January 2023. Prior to that, they were a Sr. Engineer specializing in Heat Transfer and Fluid Flow at the same company, starting in March 2022.

Before joining VEIR, Acton worked at Exponent as a Senior Associate in Thermal Science. In this role, they worked with various clients in different industries, including energy, consumer and industrial electronics, apparel, and home goods. Michael provided timely solutions to scientific and engineering challenges related to heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid flow. Acton worked at Exponent from October 2019 to March 2022.

Acton also gained research experience during their time at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as a PhD Candidate. Their research focused on the development of a novel computational fluid dynamics (CFD) uncertainty quantification methodology for heat transfer and fluid flow simulations in support of nuclear reactor licensing. This role provided him with extensive experience in CFD simulation, statistical analysis, programming, and data visualization. Michael completed their PhD at MIT in October 2019.

Additionally, Acton has worked as a Mechanical Engineering Tutor at Cambridge Coaching from January 2017 to June 2019. Michael also gained industry experience as a Computational Fluid Dynamics Intern at TerraPower LLC in 2016.

Acton's earlier work experience includes a Toshiba-Westinghouse Fellowship at The Pennsylvania State University in 2013.

Overall, Acton's work experience demonstrates their expertise in heat transfer, fluid flow, and computational fluid dynamics, as well as their ability to work in a variety of industries and tackle scientific and engineering challenges.

Michael Acton completed their education in the field of nuclear science and engineering. Michael attained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 2014 to 2019. Prior to that, from 2010 to 2014, they obtained a degree in nuclear engineering from the Missouri University of Science and Technology.
