Thomas Hanson

EVP, CRO & Investments at Venerable

Thomas is Venerable's Chief Risk Officer and Head of Investments, focused on execution of the operating company’s enterprise risk management strategy, investment management and operations, and operational risk management and audit.

Prior to this role, he served as Head of Corporate Risk for Voya Financial. From 2010-2013, he served as the Chief Risk Officer for the Closed Block Variable Annuity and Annuity business lines. From 2008-2010, he served as Chief Financial Officer for ING Life Japan, ING’s insurance subsidiary in Japan. In this role, he was responsible for all finance and risk functions of this business, covering both variable annuities and life insurance. From 2000-2008, he performed various duties for ING Group in West Chester, including product development, financial reporting, and risk management.

Prior to 2000, he worked at Manulife in Canada, based in the Canadian headquarters in Waterloo, Ontario. Thomas is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. He received a BsC in Mathematics from the University of Windsor in Ontario, Canada.
