Jim McLean has a diverse work experience spanning over several industries and roles. Jim is currently serving as the Chief Technology Officer at Verinetics since 2022. Prior to this, they were the President/CEO of Learning Machines, a software and services firm that they co-founded in 1999. Jim successfully raised $1 million in funding and played a key role in designing an adaptive tutoring engine.

In addition, Jim has held various positions at different companies. Jim worked as a Senior Strategic Advisor and Director of Finance and Operations at The Hill Center in 2014-2015. Jim served as a Consultant and Interim CTO at TRA School Software Solutions, Inc. in 2012-2013. Jim was the VP of Marketing and Services at EMACS Incorporated from 1994 to 1999. Jim also worked as an Instructor of Interactive Media at the School of Communication Arts in 1996-1997.

Jim's earlier career included roles at if... Multimedia, IBM, and IBM. Jim was a Co-Founder and Partner at if... Multimedia from 1991 to 1997. At IBM, they held various positions including Principal of Multimedia Consulting, Manager of Emerging Technologies, Marketing Manager, and Staff Assistant to the Regional Manager. Jim started their career as an Advisory Marketing Representative at IBM from 1983 to 1987.

Jim McLean attended the University of Virginia Darden School of Business from 1980 to 1982 and earned a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) with a focus on Marketing. Prior to that, from 1975 to 1977, they pursued Pre-Medical Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a post-undergraduate non-degree student. Jim McLean also holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Anthropology from Harvard University, which they completed from 1972 to 1975. Jim completed their high school education at Woodberry Forest School in Woodberry Forest, VA from 1969 to 1972.
