Ian Dickinson's work experience begins in 1984 when they started as an R&D Engineer at Cambridge Consultants Ltd. Ian then moved on to work at Hewlett-Packard Labs in various roles from 1988 to 2009, including Senior Research Engineer and Technical Lead. During their time at Hewlett-Packard Labs, they were involved in projects related to user interfaces, semantic web programming, agent-based architectures, and AI-based diagnosis software. In 2009, they joined Epimorphics Ltd as a Web Applications Lead, where they specialized in Semantic Web and Linked Open Data consultancy and product development. Ian later became a Product Lead and was responsible for front-end application design and development. Some notable projects they worked on include creating linked-data for the Food Standards Agency, developing a data catalogue and food recall alerts, and designing interactive data visualizations. Most recently, Ian Dickinson became the Chief Technology Officer at Verna in 2022.

Ian Dickinson completed their BSc (hons) in Computer Science at the University of York from 1981 to 1984. Subsequently, they pursued their PhD in Computer Science at the University of Liverpool, which they successfully completed from 1999 to 2006.
