Oliver Binns

Chief Digital Officer (cdo) at Vesuvius

Oliver Binns has a diverse work experience, starting with their role as a Researcher at Vesuvius in 2007. During this time, they developed a novel method of detecting the cause of a production issue and helped establish a new inspection laboratory.

In 2010, Oliver joined Tata Steel in Europe as a Business Analyst, where they managed a project office for a turnaround program, implemented a pricing policy project, and supported the senior management team with reporting and analysis.

Oliver then transitioned to the role of Strategy Manager in 2012, where they developed enterprise-level turnaround plans, prepared strategic papers for senior leadership, and created data visualizations.

Oliver was promoted to Chief Strategy Europe in 2017, where they led the evaluation of European assets for a significant investment program, consulted on strategic topics, and built relationships across functions.

Most recently, Oliver served as the Chief Data Officer at Tata Steel in Europe from January 2020 to February 2023. In this role, they led the transformation of data-handling processes, coordinated data quality improvement programs, and implemented Agile/DevOps software development.

Oliver currently holds the position of Chief Digital Officer (CDO) at Vesuvius since February 2023.

Oliver Binns completed their education at the University of Cambridge. Oliver obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Natural Sciences from 2003 to 2006, followed by a Master of Science (MSci) degree in Natural Sciences from 2006 to 2007. In addition, they have obtained various certifications in Algorithmic Toolbox, Machine Learning, Process Mining: Data Science in Action, and R Programming from Coursera Course Certificates.
