Via International – Building Cross-Border Community Since 1975

Via International is a nonprofit organization based in San Diego, California, and Tijuana, Mexico, dedicated to promoting sustainable development by engaging and supporting leaders in emerging communities. For nearly fifty years, we’ve worked alongside families, promotoras, students, and grassroots organizations to strengthen local leadership and foster lasting social and economic change across the U.S.–Mexico border and beyond.

Our mission is rooted in the belief that true transformation begins within communities themselves. We listen first, collaborate deeply, and invest in programs that build capacity, promote equity, and amplify community voices. From nutrition and microcredit programs to youth arts and leadership training, Via supports initiatives that help families achieve economic stability, environmental resilience, and social well-being.

Through our Via GO Travel Program, we connect students, universities, and faith-based groups with immersive cross-border experiences that cultivate cultural understanding and global citizenship. Participants learn directly from local leaders, engage in service-learning projects, and gain a deeper appreciation of the complex realities shaping border communities.

Via also advances social business innovation, supporting small enterprises that create jobs and sustainable livelihoods — including community bakeries, microcredit networks, and youth arts cooperatives.

Today, Via International continues to build bridges across borders, connecting neighbors, institutions, and communities in a shared mission of solidarity and hope.

Join us as we celebrate 50 years of cross-border collaboration and continue working toward a more just, sustainable, and interconnected world.
