Eric Carlson

Eric Carlson serves as the Chief Scientific Officer for the Eye Care Division at Viatris since January 2023. Previously, Eric held similar leadership roles, including Chief Scientific Officer at Oyster Point Pharma from December 2020 to January 2024, Chief Scientific Officer at Akorn Pharmaceutical from December 2019 to December 2020, and Vice President of Global R&D at Aerie Pharmaceuticals from September 2017 to December 2019. Eric's earlier experience encompasses positions such as Senior Global Program Head at Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation and multiple leadership roles at Alcon, including Therapeutic Unit Head. An academic background includes an Assistant Professorship at Case Western Reserve University, focusing on ophthalmology, immunology, inflammation, and infectious disease, as well as a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in ophthalmology and extracellular matrix biology. Eric holds a Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and a B.A. in Biology from Thiel College.
