Stein Aerts

Stein Aerts currently serves as the Scientific Director of VIB.AI and Group Leader at VIB since September 2016. Alongside this role, Stein Aerts is a Full Professor at KU Leuven, where responsibilities include being Principal Investigator of the Laboratory of Computational Biology with research interests encompassing regulatory genomics, cancer genome control, fruit fly genetics, bioinformatics, and systems biology. Stein Aerts has held several academic positions at KU Leuven and previously worked as an Assistant Professor and Postdoc at VIB, with additional postdoctoral experience in network biology at the Institut de biologie du développement de Marseilles. Educational qualifications include a Master of Science in Bio-engineering from KU Leuven and a Subsequent Master in Computer Science from Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Early career roles involved bioinformatics and software development for pharmaceutical applications.
