Michael Power

Chief Executive Officer at VieCure

Michael is the Chief Business Development Officer. He helped found VieCure and leads the Global Business Development portfolio.

Michael received his Masters in International Management from University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. He completed his undergraduate degree in Public Administration and Political Science at Lakehead University. He attended Western Michigan University on a NCAA Division I Hockey Scholarship and is a NHL draftee of the Edmonton Oilers Hockey Club.

Michael has more than twenty-years of executive level experience in cancer medicine. He was a Regional Vice President for Cancer Care Ontario, the largest managed cancer system in the world, and functioned as an Executive Vice President for one of Ontario’s Academic Health Science Centers. Michael’s senior management responsibilities have included oversight for radiation oncology, systemic therapy, surgical oncology, molecular imaging, pathology, inpatient care, palliative care and cancer research. Michael served as Chief Executive Officer for the Thunder Bay Regional Research Institute where he helped raise more than $100M to support the establishment of Canada’s newest molecular imaging research program. He was responsible for opening the country’s newest cyclotron facility and helped to recruit 15 world-leading career and clinician scientists to the province and more than 100 new professional staff.

Michael was named one of Canada’s TOP 40 Under 40 in 2010 and recognized by the Canadian College of Health Service Executives with the Robert Zed Memorial Award.

In 2012, Michael joined Elekta AB and was subsequently promoted to Vice President and Managing Partner of the Elekta Enterprise Solutions Group and appointed to the Elekta Global Management Committee. Michael was named the top Elekta business performer in 2015.

He continues to sit as a Member of the Board of Directors for Canada’s largest independent Telecom Company – TBayTel. He is past Board Member of the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research and the Northern Cancer Research Foundation.
