The mission of Instituto dos Vinhos do Douro e do Porto (IVDP, I.P.) is to promote the control of the quality and quantity of Port wines, regulating the production process, as well as the protection, defence and certification of the Douro and Port designations of origin and the Duriense geographical indication.

IVDP also promotes the international prestige of the Porto and Douro designations of origin and aims to increase consumer perception of value, based on strong product differentiation in terms of the concepts of designation of origin and terroir.
