Yury Sokolov

Yury Sokolov is a Senior Software Engineer specializing in algorithms at Hyperloop One since August 2022. Prior to this role, Yury served as a Postdoctoral Scholar at UC San Diego from August 2018 to July 2022, where significant contributions included developing bio-inspired reinforcement learning algorithms, designing solutions for multi-armed bandit problems, and implementing algorithms on Intel's Loihi neuromorphic chip. Yury's research interests also encompassed addressing catastrophic forgetting in neural networks and creating large-scale computational neuroscience models. Previous positions include a Departmental Postdoctoral Associate at the University of Pittsburgh, where Yury conducted research in mathematical and computational neuroscience and taught graph theory, and a Postdoctoral Fellow at The University of Memphis, which involved analyzing multi-electrode array recordings. Yury holds a PhD in Mathematics and an MS in Mathematics from The University of Memphis, and an MS in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science from Saint Petersburg State University.
