Bart Elen is an experienced researcher and expert in the fields of wireless sensor networks, medical AI evaluation, and air quality measurement technologies. Starting as a researcher at K.U.Leuven from September 2004 to April 2009, Bart focused on sensor networks and contributed to Intelligent Transportation Systems projects with industry partners. Since 2020, Bart has been working at VITO as an expert in medical AI, researching deep learning technologies to ensure consistent performance levels of medical AI models across hospitals. Prior to this role, Bart served as a principal data scientist at VITO from 2016 to 2017, working on software for advanced analysis of retina images to facilitate disease detection. Bart's educational background includes a Master’s in Civil Engineering in Computer Science from KU Leuven and a Master’s in Electronics from Groep T - Internationale Hogeschool Leuven, both with great honors.
