Graham Smith

Head of Engineering at Vivantio

Graham Smith has extensive work experience in various roles and industries. In 1991, they began their career as a Senior Research Officer at Henry Doubleday Research Association, where they worked until 2000. Graham then joined Teignbridge District Council as a System Developer, responsible for developing line of business applications. In 2007, Graham was promoted to IT Systems Integration Manager at the same company, a role they held until 2012.

From 2012 to 2018, Graham worked at the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office, initially as a Commercial Software Engineering Manager, then as a Software Engineering and Development Manager, and finally as the Head of Digital Services and Technology. In 2018, they joined DevOpsGroup as a Senior DevOps Consultant, where they worked until 2020.

Currently, Graham is employed at Vivantio, where they started as a Software Development Manager in 2020. Graham has recently been promoted to the role of Head of Engineering.

Graham Smith's education history begins in 1987 when they enrolled at Bangor University and pursued a Bachelor's of Science degree in Botany & Soil Science. Graham completed their undergraduate studies in 1990. Graham continued their academic journey by joining Coventry University in 1991, where they pursued a PhD in Soil Chemistry. Graham completed their doctorate in 2000.

In addition to their formal degrees, Graham has obtained several certifications throughout their career. In 2007, they achieved the PRINCE2 Foundation Examination from the Office of Government Commerce. In 2008, they obtained the ITIL Version 3 Foundation certification from BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT. Continuing their professional development, in 2010 Graham earned the Level 5 Award in Management from the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) and the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Business-Improvement Techniques from EAL Awards.

In 2012, Graham acquired the Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace from The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health. Graham then pursued additional certifications in Agile and DevOps, obtaining the Foundation Certificate in Agile in 2019 and the Foundation Certificate in DevOps in 2020, both from BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT. Moreover, in 2014, they acquired the Professional Scrum Master certification from Scrum.org, as well as the Professional Scrum Developer certification from the same institution. Finally, in 2015, Graham obtained the Intermediate Certificate in Enterprise and Solution Architecture and the Practitioner Certificate in Enterprise and Solution Architecture, both from BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT.

Overall, Graham Smith has a solid educational background with a BSc in Botany & Soil Science from Bangor University and a PhD in Soil Chemistry from Coventry University. Graham has also obtained various certifications in areas such as management, IT, project management, and agile methodologies.
