Vivek Aswal has a diverse work experience in computer vision and research. Vivek is currently working as a Computer Vision Engineer at Voxel since 2022. Prior to that, they worked as a Research Assistant at Carnegie Mellon University from September 2021 to December 2021, where they focused on benchmarking models for tiny object detection using the Open-MMDetection framework. Vivek achieved an mAP of 51% using models like Faster-RCNN and RetinaNet.
Vivek also worked as a Research Intern at NEC Laboratories America, Inc. from June 2021 to August 2021. During this time, they performed correlation analysis between changes in video bandwidth transmission and face/person detection, and developed ML models to dynamically adjust slice QoS requests to 5G networks. Their technique outperformed traditional forecasting methods and saved 34% of network bandwidth in a real-world deployment.
Before that, Vivek gained experience as a Computer Vision Intern at NCFlexE, IIT Kanpur in November and December 2020. Vivek worked on identifying printed bar code regions and constructing a dual input image classifier.
In 2019, Vivek worked as a Summer Research Intern at the University of Hyderabad, where they focused on Conditional GANs for bio-metric forging. Vivek created images based on different signature types and trained a CNN network to distinguish between fake and real images.
Vivek's earlier experiences include a Summer Internship at Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay in 2018, and a Summer Internship at Vivekanand Education Society's Institute Of Technology in 2017.
Vivek Aswal holds a Master's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, which they obtained from Carnegie Mellon University in the years 2021-2022. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor's degree in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering at the University of Mumbai between 2016 and 2020. In addition to their formal education, Vivek has obtained several certifications. Vivek completed a Machine Learning course from Coursera in August 2020 and earned a TensorFlow Developer certification from the same platform in April 2020. Furthermore, in September 2018, they obtained the MTA: Introduction to Programming Using Python - Certified 2018 certification from Microsoft.
