A. John Hart has extensive experience in the field of mechanical engineering and manufacturing. A. John is currently serving as the Faculty Lead for the Manufacturing@MIT Working Group at Manufacturing@MIT since 2022. Prior to this role, they held several positions at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, including Professor of Mechanical Engineering since 2013, where they also founded and directed the MIT Center for Additive and Digital Advanced Production Technologies and served as the Director of the MIT Laboratory for Manufacturing and Productivity. A. John was also the Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering from 2013 to 2020.

Additionally, A. John Hart has held roles in various companies, including being a Member of the Board of Directors at Carpenter Technology Corporation since 2019. A. John is also a co-founder of Desktop Metal and VulcanForms Inc., both established in 2015. In the past, they worked as an Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan from 2007 to 2013, where they were affiliated with the departments of Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Art + Design. A. John also co-founded and served as the Chief Scientist at Absolute Nano, a producer of equipment for nanomaterials research, from 2007 to 2012. Prior to that, they held positions at Owlstone Nanotech as a Senior Project Engineer in 2006 and as a Postdoctoral Associate at MIT in 2006-2007. A. John began their career in the Advanced Development Group at General Motors - OnStar in 2001.

A. John Hart has a strong educational background in Mechanical Engineering. A. John completed their Bachelor of Science in Engineering (B.S.E.) at the University of Michigan from 1997 to 2000. After that, they pursued further studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where they obtained a Master of Science (S.M.) degree in Mechanical Engineering from 2000 to 2002. A. John Hart continued their education at MIT and completed their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Mechanical Engineering from 2002 to 2006.
