Michael James

Michael James currently serves as Assistant County Manager for Wake County since July 2023. Prior to this position, Michael held the role of Fiscal Recovery Officer at the Town of Morrisville from September 2021 to July 2023 and worked as a Senior Budget and Management Analyst and Budget and Management Analyst at Wake County between April 2015 and September 2021. Michael's career began as an ICMA/NCACC Management Fellow at Lee County, NC Government from January 2014 to April 2015, followed by a stint as a Governmental Affairs Research Intern with the North Carolina League of Municipalities in late 2013. Additional experience includes an internship with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality's Planning Department in mid-2013, a Graduate Research Assistant position at North Carolina State University's Department of Public Administration from August 2012 to June 2013, and various internships with the North Carolina General Assembly between January 2011 and July 2012. Michael holds a Master of Public Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, both from North Carolina State University.
