Ian Gavin has a diverse work experience in the humanitarian sector. Ian began their career at British Red Cross in 1996, where they held various roles including Programme Coordinator and Reporting Delegate. In these positions, they provided strategic advice, developed national strategies, and managed grants from institutional donors. Ian then transitioned to Concern Worldwide, where they served as an Assistant Country Director - Programmes. Here, they led the strategic planning process, managed program development and delivery, and supervised consultancies. Following this, Ian joined Malaria Consortium as an Operations Manager, overseeing project operations support and contributing to the organizational strategic plan. Ian then joined GOAL Ireland as an Assistant Country Director - Programmes, responsible for program development, implementation, and evaluation. Currently, Ian is with WaterAid, where they have held several roles including WASH Results Programme Coordinator, Senior Business Development Manager, South Asia Regional Programme Manager, and Global COVID-19 Hygiene Behaviour Change Coalition Programme Manager. In these roles, they have been involved in program planning, development, effectiveness, quality assurance, and fundraising.

Ian Gavin attended Sheffield Hallam University from 1991 to 1993, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Business, Communication, and IT. Ian later pursued a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Development Practice from the Centre for Development and Emergency Practice at Oxford Brookes University, which they completed in 2004.
