Akshay Roy

Mapping, localization and AV, Team lead at WaveSense

Akshay Roy has a diverse work experience in the field of robotics and engineering. Akshay is currently working at GPR as the Team Lead for Mapping, Localization, and AV. Prior to that, they held the position of Senior Mapping and Localization Engineer at the same company.

Before joining GPR, Akshay worked at Vecna Robotics as a Senior Robotics Software Engineer and later as a Robotics Engineer. During their time at Vecna Robotics, Akshay played a vital role in the development of the software for a robot that won the DHL Robotics Challenge in 2018. Akshay was responsible for implementing, testing, and improving SLAM algorithms.

Akshay also gained experience as a Graduate Research Assistant at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where they worked on maintaining an embedded Linux system for an underwater robot.

In addition to their robotics work, Akshay has held leadership positions as the Vice President of Robotics and Machine Intelligence and as the Chairman of Brainspark. Akshay also worked as an Analog Test Engineer at Texas Instruments, where they designed and implemented a circuit to mitigate the effects of trace resistance in test circuits.

Akshay Roy completed their Master's degree in Electrical and computer engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology from 2016 to 2018. Prior to that, they obtained their Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation and control engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, where they studied from 2012 to 2016. Akshay completed their high school education at Amrita Vidyalayam, from 2006 to 2012.
