Iliyan Popov, PhD, is an experienced researcher and entrepreneur specializing in electrochemical energy storage systems. Currently serving as Co-Founder and CEO of OXYMET, Iliyan leads a project focused on magnesium-air batteries, achieving commercialization as the first European company to launch this innovative technology. Iliyan has also held roles such as Research Team Lead at WaveTech Group Inc. and Assistant Professor at the Institute of Electrochemistry and Energy Systems, where significant contributions were made in advanced electrochemical power systems. Iliyan obtained a PhD in Catalysts and Cell Design for Lithium-Air Batteries from the Institute of Electrochemistry and Energy Systems "Academician Evgeni Budevski" and has a Master of Engineering degree from the University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy, Sofia.
