Jim Dunphy

Jim Dunphy is an experienced hardware engineer currently employed at Waymo since November 2017. Prior to Waymo, Dunphy held the position of Optics Hardware Engineering Lead at Google from June 2013 to November 2017. Earlier career roles include Senior Staff System Architect at Synaptics, Director of Test Development at Solyndra, and Systems Engineer at Texas Instruments. Additional experience includes roles as Senior Scientist at Reflectivity and Candescent, as well as Senior Device Engineer at Kovio Inc. Dunphy began professional training as a grad student at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory from 1989 to 1995, culminating in a PhD in Physics from the University of California, Berkeley, following undergraduate studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1985 to 1989.
