Vlad Cardei

Vlad Cardei is a seasoned technology professional with extensive experience in camera software engineering and imaging algorithms. Currently serving as a Staff Camera Software Engineer at Waymo since June 2018, Vlad leads the Camera Software Team, focusing on advanced camera design, ISP pipeline optimization, and algorithms for autonomous vehicles. Prior to this role, Vlad worked at Google from August 2008 to June 2018 as a Senior Software Engineer, where contributions included advancing imaging algorithms for mobile cameras and researching digital imaging techniques. Vlad's earlier positions include Senior Research Scientist at NextEngine, where research centered on 3D laser scanning, and Senior Scientist at Polaroid, involving color imaging studies. Vlad's career began as a Vision Research Scientist at International Submarine Engineering, where innovative image processing algorithms were developed for automated fuel-refueling systems. Vlad holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Simon Fraser University and an M.Sc. in Computer Science from the University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest.
