Yiren Lu

Yiren Lu is a Senior Research Scientist and Tech Lead at Waymo since July 2020, specializing in reinforcement learning, imitation learning, foundation models post-training, motion planning, and multi-agent simulation. Previously, Yiren served as a Software Engineer at Google from July 2017 to June 2020, working on Google Assistant and Search, as well as a 20% project with Brain-Robotics focused on deep reinforcement learning and imitation learning. Yiren's experience includes research assistant roles at the University of Pennsylvania's GRASP Lab, where work involved reinforcement learning and inverse reinforcement learning under Professor Daniel D, and as a teaching assistant for a graduate-level machine learning course. Additional internships and roles were held at Google, Microsoft Research, eBay, and Morgan Stanley. Yiren holds a Master of Science in Engineering in Robotics from the University of Pennsylvania, a non-degree option in Artificial Intelligence from Stanford University, and a Bachelor of Engineering in Software Engineering from Tongji University, along with an exchange program in Computer Science at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
