Danny Morris

Danny Morris has a diverse work experience in the field of data science. Danny started their career as a Research Assistant Internship at the South Carolina Policy Council Education Foundation, where they supported senior researchers in data mining, analysis, and interactive visualization. Their highlight project involved using hierarchical clustering to segment US states based on variables related to corruption.

Danny then moved on to join Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York, where they held multiple roles. As a Clinical Analyst I, they focused on improving planning and operations using analytics and predictive modeling. Later, as an Analytics Consultant II - Marketing, they provided analytics leadership to support Sales and Marketing strategies and developed an innovative text classification algorithm for marketing campaign data audits. Finally, as a Data Scientist II, their role was to scale the Data Science footprint through customer engagement and developing integrated analytic products. Their notable project involved deploying a modern solution portfolio using AWS services and fostering relationships with stakeholders across technical and business areas.

Following their time at Highmark, Danny joined Highmark Health as a Data Scientist, where they worked until 2021. There, they played a crucial role in data analysis and modeling, contributing to the organization's data-driven insights.

Danny's most recent position is as a Principal Data Scientist at Wayspring. Here, they created Signal, a scalable predictive modeling software that identifies risks for members affected by substance use disorder. Signal supports operations and clinical teams through risk management and patient prioritization. In this role, they utilize various tools, including R, SQL, Python, AWS, Git, and Docker.

Danny Morris obtained their Bachelor's degree in Sociology from the University of South Carolina in the years 2012 to 2015. In 2018 to 2019, they also completed a certificate program in Programming for Data Science at the Institute for Statistics Education. Additionally, Danny Morris obtained the certification of AWS Certified Machine Learning - Specialty from Amazon Web Services (AWS) in December 2019.
