Alena Messmer

Software Engineer, Backend at Webflow

Alena Messmer started their work experience in 2014 as a Translator for Filmprint Digital, where they translated movie subtitles from English to Czech for theater and festival audiences. Alena then joined Ada Developers Academy in 2017 as a Student, where they underwent intensive software development training and developed various web applications using Ruby on Rails and JavaScript. Their capstone project was NoshPit, a web application that facilitates group decision-making for restaurant choices.

In 2017, Alena also started working at Nordstrom as a Software Engineer Intern, where they designed and built a database-backed service to automate the process of managing in-store product availability. Alena also contributed to the development of new internal troubleshooting tools. Alena then advanced to the role of Engineer 1, where they wrote a proof-of-concept Apache Kafka consumer and test producer to gather and analyze data for internal incident mitigation. Additionally, they performed detailed analysis of on-call alerts and suggested improvements for the on-call experience. Finally, they served as an Engineer 2, further contributing to the team's efforts.

Currently, Alena is working as a Software Engineer, Backend at Webflow, starting in June 2022.

Alena Messmer's education history includes various academic experiences. In 2010, they began their undergraduate studies at Charles University, where they pursued a Bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature & Linguistics. Alena successfully completed their degree in 2013, achieving the distinction of "magna cum laude." Following this, Alena continued their studies at Charles University from 2013 to 2015, focusing on English language and linguistics. In 2015, they briefly attended the University of Washington to further delve into the field of English Language and Literature.
